Kurrajong Public School -- Year 1 Scarecrows, 2007
The children of Year 1 Kurrajong Public School won the Special Projects Category in the 2007 Kurrajong Scarecrow Festival for their mass display of student scarecrows. This is how the scarecrows were made.
Mrs Barwick explained the correct techniques of making the student scarecrows to her class.
A simple face was made by painting on a paper plate. Then the scarecrow's body was begun by sticking a short stick to a school chair.
The scarecrow's legs were formed by stuffing pantyhose with crumpled newspaper.
Then each scarecrow was dressed in an old school uniform sloppy joe and track pants.
A mop was fitted onto the stick for the scarecrow's hair. The children created all sorts of scarecrow hairdos with plaits, ponytails and bandannas.
A job well done!
